Following a highly competitive open call, Ahsan Ridha Hassan from Krakow has been chosen in July 2018 to spend November developing his work in the world’s first UNESCO City of Literature.

Lord Provost of Edinburgh Frank Ross visited Krakow between 11 th and 14 th June to participate in the XII Annual Meeting of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network. Rt. Hon. Frank Ross took part in the Mayor’s Forum where creative tools have been discussed to solve the most significant problems related to the city development.

On Monday 22 January British Ambassador to Poland Jonathan Knott visited a tram service station in Podgórze to see the tram decorated with Scottish tartan designed for Kraków. The ambassador himself requested to visit one of Kraków tram depots and was eager not only to take a photo against this special vehicle but also to have a go at driving it.

250 people, representatives of several dozen libraries all over Poland, including many from Kraków and Małopolska region but also from abroad, participated in an international conference "Library at a Turning Point" on Friday 19 January. The event was organised in the ICE Kraków Convention Centre by Kraków Library together with Kraków Municipality.

On Sunday, 1 October Frank Ross Lord Provost of Edinburgh officially presented the tartan to Krakow’s Mayor Jacek Majchrowski. The tartan was weaved in Dalgleish - one of Scotland’s last traditional tartan mills.

Scots have their tartan kilts and now Kraków – as the first city in Poland - has its own tartan design! Out of five possible designs Kraków citizens have selected one which best represents the character of our city.

In 2013, Krakow, as one of the first cities signed the Dublin Declaration which obliges us to act for the benefit of senior citizens. We want to create adequate conditions for seniors to actively and with dignity live through their old age - said Mayor Majchrowski opening the plenary session of the International Conference “Focus on Senior Citizens” held in Krakow on 8-9 November 2016.

After a three-year wait, Kraków is officially revealed as the latest UNESCO City of Literature. The decision reached Mayor Jacek Majchrowski on Monday, 21 October 2013. We are the first city in continental Europe and the seventh city in the world to be granted this honour, following Edinburgh, Melbourne, Iowa City, Dublin, Reykjavík and Norwich!
